So why 'Ghettocentricity'?
"Challenging perceptions of what a Ghetto represents"
‘Ghetto’ means an area, usually a 'slum area', segregated from mainstream society largely due to racial, economic, social, and/or legal pressures that are inhabited by a minority group'
"Ghettos can face high crime rates, poor housing and social amenities, yet also house a wealth of intelligent, skilled and talented individuals that transcend their restrictive boundaries. I see beauty, opportunity, spirituality, unity, hope, optimism, creativity, ingenuity and so much more in the ghetto. I want to share my observations and experiences through my work".
"I see, appreciate and enhance the inherent qualities of once forgotten, discarded, unappreciated, unloved furniture whose beautiful design is overlooked, its quality unnoticed".
"The terms Ghettocentricity and Ghettocentric give an air of intellectualism to the Ghetto experience, pushing us to examine the conditions of the ghetto and all that it entails, evokes and captures".
".......and I like the way the word Ghetto looks visually".
"This is my reasoning. Hope you now see the beauty in the word. The beauty in the Ghetto".
